Happy FEM Friday!

Let’s get something straight from the beginning:

This is not your permission slip to disappear. This is not me telling you not to show up. Because showing up—especially as a woman in music—is powerful.

It builds trust. It attracts the right fans. It keeps your momentum moving.

But if we’re being honest...

There are seasons when showing up daily just isn’t possible.

Maybe you're caregiving. Maybe your mental health is fragile. Maybe you're deep in the studio, finishing a project. Maybe life just threw a curveball you didn’t see coming.

Whatever the reason, sometimes you need to take your foot off the gas—for a week, a month, or longer.

And when that time comes? You need something that keeps you visible without requiring your energy.

🛠️ The 9-Grid Workshop + Bonus Templates

🎧 Are You In A Hustle or Balance Season?

📻 Add These Songs To Your Playlist

You need a way to stay visible online when it's literally impossible for you to show up regularly.

That’s where the 9-Grid comes in.

What Is a 9-Grid?

A 9-Grid is a set of nine intentionally crafted Instagram posts designed to live permanently at the top of your profile. Think of it like your mini artist homepage—sitting right inside your feed.

These nine posts are cohesive in visuals and message. They guide any new visitor through:

  • Who you are
  • What your music is about
  • How they can support or follow you
  • What they can expect from your world

No matter when someone finds your page, even if you haven’t posted in a while, your 9-Grid tells your story—clearly, professionally, and with heart.

The "TV Dinner" Strategy

Here’s the truth: this is not meant to replace your beautiful, spontaneous, in-the-moment content.

This is your Plan B.

Your TV dinner strategy.

Not the gourmet meal you cook when life is calm and creative energy is flowing.

But the comforting, shelf-stable go-to you can rely on when life is too much.

It’s not meant to feed your audience forever—but in a pinch, it absolutely gets the job done.

  • It keeps fans engaged
  • It keeps your profile polished
  • It keeps opportunities open
  • It protects your peace

Think of it this way:

Would you want to serve your family frozen lasagna every day? Probably not.

But are you glad it’s in the freezer on the nights you’re too tired to function?
Exactly.

Why This Matters for Women in Music

Let’s be real: women carry a lot. Many of us are the emotional, logistical, and physical support systems in our families and communities. And while we’re proud of that, it means that our creative time is often the first to get sacrificed.

A 9-Grid gives you the breathing room to care for what matters, without losing touch with your audience or your purpose.

It replaces guilt with grace.

Because this isn’t about disappearing. It’s about strategically staying visible when your real life demands your full attention.

The 9-Grid Workshop

Inside the Female Musician Academy this month, we’re offering a live workshop where you’ll walk away with:

✔️ A fully mapped-out 9-Grid tailored to your music + message
✔️ Clear copy prompts so you’re not stuck staring at a blank screen
✔️ Design layouts you can use (even if you're not a designer)
✔️ Confidence that your fans and future fans can still find you, feel you, and follow you—even when you need a break

This is for the busy seasons, the healing seasons, the working-on-it seasons.

This is your backup plan with soul.

Always in your corner,
<3 Bree

ON THE PODCAST

In this solo episode, I explore hustle versus balance in careers, particularly in the music industry.

I talk about the significance of intentional hustle, especially at the start of a music career, to build momentum and systems that allow for eventual balance.

I also discuss recognizing signs of burnout and finding opportunities to delegate tasks or adopt tools, such as ChatGPT, to maintain progress without personal burnout.

I suggest that achieving a middle ground might be more about alternating between periods of hustle and balance rather than maintaining both simultaneously, always considering one's mental health and career objectives.

WOMEN OF SUBSTANCE FEATURED TRACKS

Sophia DeLeo - Peter Got Engaged

Sophia DeLeo is a New York City based singer-songwriter. Known for her “ethereal vocals” and “diary-style lyrics,” her music is characterized by its fearless honesty, focusing in on themes of womanhood, personal trauma, and the complicated journey of healing.

In 2023, she released her coming-of-age concept EP Drama Queen to critical acclaim. “Her captivating storytelling and emotional candidness demand comparisons to the songwriting prowess of Taylor Swift,” wrote UK-based blog Right Chord Music. She has since toured the record up and down the East Coast and through the festival circuit, including Meadowlark Music Festival 2024, alongside headliners Fruit Bats and Blonde Redhead.

Her new single “Peter Got Engaged” marks a deeply personal and raw examination of sexual assault from a survivor’s perspective. A clip of the song amassed over 15k likes and over 100k views on TikTok before its release and earned praise from up-and-coming artists Jensen McRae and BLÜ EYES. “It’s my hope that whoever hears this, whoever may still be lost on their own healing journey knows that they’re not to blame, and–most importantly–they’re not alone,” she shares. The unique perspective and unflinching vulnerability she brings to her music are what connects her to her listeners most, and what makes Sophia DeLeo an artist to watch.
