Maybe you have a feature you’re sensitive about, or something visible you don’t want to have to explain.
For me, it’s my eyes.
I was born with glaucoma and have been legally blind my entire life. When I was 17, I lost vision in my right eye completely. That eye had already been through multiple surgeries as a baby. It looked cloudy. It didn’t focus like the other one.
Getting on stage was hard enough. But video? That was another level of vulnerability.
Because people can be cruel.
I’ve had trolls ask if I had a glass eye—more times than I can count.
I’ve had strangers accuse me of using my eye as “click bait” (yes, really).
I’ve had people flat-out tell me I shouldn’t do video because my eyes “look too weird.”
I’m not telling you this to scare you off.
I’m telling you because if I had listened to them—if I had let their voices drown out mine—I wouldn’t have the music career and business I have today.
And I wouldn't be writing this email that you're reading right now.
Why I Kept Showing Up Anyway
For every ridiculous comment from some keyboard troll, there were ten messages from people who said:
“You gave me the courage to start again.”
“I thought I was too old, too awkward, too late—but you made me believe it wasn’t over.”
That’s who I show up for. Not the trolls. Not the ones who are projecting their own insecurity onto you because they’re too scared to be seen themselves.
I kept showing up because I knew video wasn’t about looking perfect. It was about making a connection.
And I wasn’t going to let strangers who didn’t matter write my story for me.
Why This Matters to You
You might be holding back on video because you don’t like the way you look, or you’re worried people will judge you.
But here’s the truth: Your people don’t need you to be flawless.
They need you to be visible. They need your story, your voice, your presence.
And the ones who are meant to find you? They’re not looking for polish. They’re looking for real.
Your Challenge This Week: Show Up Anyway
I want you to do one brave thing this week:
🎥 Post a video.
Just 30 seconds.
You can be singing. Talking. Sharing a behind-the-scenes moment.
You don’t need a fancy setup. Just you and your phone and your message.
And when that little voice says, “Who do you think you are?” I want you to answer:
“I’m an artist with something to say. And I’m not hiding anymore.”
Tag me on IG @profitablemusicianllc if you want me to see it and cheer you on.
Or just hit reply and tell me what you're planning—I'll be in your corner either way.
We weren’t born into a world that told women like us—especially as we get older—that our voices still matter.
But guess what?
They do!
Always in your corner,
<3 Bree
