30-Second Knowledge Bomb: What is the Best Timeline For A Release?

Holiday Song Submissions

Playlist-Worthy Music

Yesterday we talked about why you need a music website.

And one of the most important pages you must have on your site is your EPK - Electronic Press Kit.

A good EPK can give someone who is looking for more info about your music (press, venues, potential collaborators, etc.) a quick, comprehensive snapshot of what you and your music are about.

An EPK can be especially advantageous when working with press, who are always under a deadline, because it's a one-stop-shop for all the assets they need.

So here's what you should have on your EPK:

  • Quotes about your music (from press or reviews, from venues about your live performances, or from fans)
  • Bio (I suggest including a single paragraph short bio and linking to your full bio)
  • Music: Choose a few of your most representative songs (including your newest release) and make it easy to stream right on your page.
  • Photos: Head shots, performance shots, album/single art. Make a few visible and link out to High Res photos that press and venues can easily download.
  • Video: Sizzle Reel if you have one, Music videos or live performance footage. Only include your best or most recent on the EPK. You can also link to your YouTube channel in case they want to see more.
  • Past/Future gigs: keep this up to date
  • Social media links: I'd only put the ones you are actually active on.
  • Contact info: Put an email contact form and be sure you monitor it regularly in case there is a quick turnaround for an interview, story or gig.
  • Links to additional info if needed: press releases, one sheets, tech riders, stage plots, etc.

To make your life easy, Bandzoogle has templates for your EPK so you don't have to build all these sections from scratch.

And you've got the tools at your fingertips to make music available for streaming and videos for watching right on your site.

I've seen artists try to build an EPK on other site platforms and, to be honest, it looked super wonky. Not the professional first impression you're looking for.

So I recommend you get a free trial on Bandzoogle and build your EPK today. With a template it will only take you a few minutes.

Please send me links! I want to see what you build.

And please reply and let me know if you're struggling to gather any of the above assets so I can write about them in future newsletters.

Always in your corner,

Some say life only makes sense in reverse, from the vantage point of your rear view – Magic Mirror is a looking glass of sorts. Like a modern day Alice in Wonderland, Pearl beckons you to slip and fall into her world. You’ll find yourself drifting with the tide – the ups, downs, and all-arounds of a life well-lived and well-loved. From start to finish you float along a reflective river, dancing in the private Studio 54 of your living room, decked out in sequins or nothing at all. It’s a feel good album that asks us to actually take the time to feel good. Magic Mirror follows the cartography of a girl, growing into a woman, as she moves through life from single-dom, to the expansive space of self-reflection, and the newly appreciated perspective of coming back together again and finding yourself, this time with someone new. A love letter to the self, a dance party for life, and at times as introspective as your best trip, Pearl takes us on a journey that, like life & love, has the tendency to surprise, delight, and leave you breathless. All you have to do is let yourself enjoy it.

PROFITABLE MUSICIAN: FEM FRIDAY EDITION September 11, 2026 Happy FEM Music Friday! Most artists I work with already have gigs on their calendar. They've got their bread-and-butter gigs like restaurants or hotel residencies or places they've played so many times that they've built up a relationship with the venue so all they have to do is call them and they can get a date on the calendar. So getting gigs isn't the problem. The problem is that the same ole gigs are getting boring. The same...

PROFITABLE MUSICIAN WEEKLY NEWSLETTER September 9, 2026 Hey there, Profitable Musician! You can spend an entire afternoon researching places to play and end up with a list of venues you’re not even excited about. Then you hear another musician describe a gig where the audience absolutely loved her music, and you think, “Where on earth do you FIND something like that?” Often, you have to look beyond places that advertise live music. This week on the podcast, six of my FMA members share their...

PROFITABLE MUSICIAN: FEM FRIDAY EDITION September 4, 2026 Happy FEM Music Friday! If you've been in my world for a while, you know I often talk about Holiday releases and bookings every year in July, because that gives you the best runway to get something recorded and book some shows to promote it in December. But this year I decided not to beat the same drum in July...but I can't allow myself to completely ignore December bookings because they can be so lucrative! So consider this your nudge...
