In the crowded world of online content creation, musicians have a secret weapon that most creators don’t: the power of in-person connection.
While YouTubers, influencers, and podcasters work hard to engage their audience through screens, musicians have the unique ability to meet their fans face-to-face at shows—an experience that fast-tracks fan loyalty like nothing else.
Studies show that relationships formed in person develop up to four times faster than those built online.
According to a Harvard Business Review study, people are 34 times more likely to say “yes” to a request (like following, buying merch, or joining an email list) when asked in person rather than through email or social media.
That’s because face-to-face interactions create a stronger emotional bond, especially when paired with music, storytelling, and shared experiences.
Think about it: when someone watches your live performance, they’re not just consuming content—they’re experiencing a moment with you. They see your passion, hear your personal stories between songs, and feel the energy of the crowd. That’s a level of engagement no Instagram reel or TikTok video can match.
Many musicians say their most loyal fans—those who stream their music, buy merch, and spread the word—are people who first saw them live.
Unlike an online follower who might passively engage with your content, a person who meets you at a show has already invested time and energy into your music. That emotional investment makes them more likely to stay connected long-term.
So while social media is a great tool for visibility, never underestimate the power of live performance. Each show is an opportunity to turn casual listeners into lifelong fans—faster and more effectively than any other type of creator can.
🎤 Your challenge: At your next gig, be intentional about connecting with the audience. Share a personal story, invite them to chat after the show, and give them an easy way to stay in touch (hint, hint...sign them up for your email list).
That face-to-face moment could be the start of a lifelong fan relationship!
Always in your corner, <3 Bree

In the latest episode of the Profitable Musician Show, I dive into the power of leverage and flywheels and how they apply to growing a fanbase, especially at live shows
"Leverage is so powerful, especially if you're able to leverage something that you were going to do anyway - like perform live."

Bron is the stage name of Melbourne based artist Bronwyn Rose Hicks who was raised in a special little patch of Victoria’s Dandenong Ranges surrounded by rainforest, fern gullies and berry farms. Her background tells of a versatile instrumentalist and performer – playing violin in orchestras on stages as big as Melbourne’s Hamer Hall before touring and performing as a member of the acclaimed and innovative vocal ensemble Invenio. A stint living in Europe saw Bron jamming regularly with jazz musicians in the French Alps and Switzerland whilst completing further studies in composition at the French conservatoire, CRR d’Annecy. In 2021, Bron met and began collaborating with four-time Juno award-winning Canadian producer Glenn Lavender. Inspired by the minimalism of artists such as Philip Glass and Olafur Arnalds, they began recording layers of delicate string lines with sparse piano pads, before adding Bron's ethereal vocal that tells of a reconnection with her Celtic heritage. Bron’s lyrics reflect the dualities and complexities of navigating adulthood without losing the magic, wonder and adventurous nature of the inner child. Full of mysticism, hope, courage, optimism and longing, Bron’s forthcoming cinematic debut EP is a journey of deep self-discovery and wonder.
