You're sitting on a Gold Mine!🪙

Hey there, Profitable Musician!

Last night I pulled up an old Spotify playlist I hadn’t listened to in a long time.

It was one of those playlists I’d made specifically because the songs put me in a really good mood. But over time, I’d found new music, made new playlists, and basically forgotten what was in there.

Within a few songs I was thinking, “How did I forget how much I LOVE this song?”

There was so much gold in there.

Songs I hadn’t thought about in years. Songs that still made me feel something immediately. They weren’t any less good because I hadn’t listened to them lately.

And it made me think about your music catalog.

We musicians tend to put almost all our attention on what’s new. The new single. The project we’re recording now. The song we’re planning to release next.

Meanwhile, there may be some incredible music sitting a few years back in your catalog that you barely talk about anymore.

You promoted it extensively when it came out. So you feel like you already talked about that song more than enough.

But think about how many people have come into your world since then who have never heard it. To them, that song isn’t old.

And if it tells an important story, helps someone through something difficult, brings attention to an issue you care about, or simply makes someone feel deeply understood, why would its release date determine whether you keep sharing it?

A song doesn’t expire because release week ended.

And then there’s another kind of gold - the song that hasn’t been written yet that only exists as a feeling you’ve been carrying around for months because you haven’t figured out how to put it into words yet.

That’s one reason I’m so excited about our new FMA Songwriters group.

Sometimes you need a place to pan for that gold with other women who are panning for their own gold alongside you and can share in those "ereka!" moments.

Funny enough, I’ve been having my own version of this "mining for gold" experience lately inside of Female Musician Accelerator.

I’ve been going through all the trainings we’ve created inside FMA over the years as I reorganize everything and make it much easier to find.

And I’ve honestly been floored.

Yes, there are trainings that need to be retired because a platform changed or a tactic is out of date.

But I keep opening trainings and thinking, “This is STILL so good.”

There are years of lessons about building relationships with fans, earning income from your music, booking opportunities, telling better stories, email marketing, creating wow-worthy live shows and so much more that haven’t suddenly stopped working because they were taught a few years ago.

Even house concerts (a subject I'm known for), which practically disappeared during COVID, are popular again.

Marketing tactics change. That’s why we keep covering what’s working now in our monthly FMA workshops. But good business principles and real human connection don’t have an expiration date.

Going through this treasure trove has made me realize something - I’ve been sitting on a gold mine, and I haven’t been talking about it nearly enough.

Which is kind of funny, considering how often I tell YOU not to be shy about talking about the value of your music.

So I’m taking my own advice.

I’m digging through the FMA vault, clearing out what no longer belongs there, and bringing the good stuff back to the surface so you can actually find and use it.

If you’ve been thinking about joining FMA, this is a really good time.

You’ll have years of proven training at your fingertips, plus the newer things we’re adding like FMA Songwriters and the current strategies we cover every month. And you’ll have women around you who can help you figure out which piece of that gold is worth digging into next.

Before you go chasing the next new thing, take another look at what you already have. There may be a lot more gold there than you realize.

Always in your corner,

PROFITABLE MUSICIAN: FEM FRIDAY EDITION August 7, 2026 Happy FEM Music Friday! Over the past 11 years, musicians have come to me for help getting more done in less time. Usually, they are not looking for a way to cram even more work into an already full week. They want to spend more time writing, rehearsing, recording, or connecting with fans without email, bookkeeping, social media, and a dozen other admin tasks taking over every available hour. I have taught plenty of planning systems,...

PROFITABLE MUSICIAN WEEKLY NEWSLETTER August 5, 2026 You know that feeling when you're welling up inside with pride? I've experienced that a few times recently: When my youngest daughter sang with her choir at Carnegie Hall, singing a complex piece being debuted on that stage - as one of a handful of high school students within a group of mostly college students. When my oldest daughter presented her 100+ page College senior honors project: Translating Terror into Tales of Transformation -...

PROFITABLE MUSICIAN: FEM FRIDAY EDITION July 31, 2026 Happy FEM Music Friday! I recently pulled out my old high school choir scrapbook because my daughter and her friend are choir captains this year, and I thought they might get a kick out of it. They definitely enjoyed the cringy 80s hairstyles and the “what were we thinking?” choir dresses. But what surprised me was how fascinated they were by the scrapbook itself. I had painstakingly cut up the programs from every choir event, pasted them...
