the System that books Awesome Gigs

PROFITABLE MUSICIAN WEEKLY NEWSLETTER

September 9, 2026

Hey there, Profitable Musician!

You can spend an entire afternoon researching places to play and end up with a list of venues you’re not even excited about.

Then you hear another musician describe a gig where the audience absolutely loved her music, and you think, “Where on earth do you FIND something like that?”

Often, you have to look beyond places that advertise live music.

This week on the podcast, six of my FMA members share their most awesome gigs. You’ll find the episode link further down in this newsletter (in case you're not already subscribed which of course you should be:).You're definitely gonna want to listen to this one. Hearing these experiences from the women who were onstage and attracted these awesome gigs is so poignant.

So in this email, I want to talk about what you can put in place to find opportunities like these for yourself.

A search for “venues that book singer songwriters” probably wouldn’t have led any of these ladies to the awesome gigs they described.

That’s why good booking research starts with who would connect with you and your music, then looks for where those people gather. Your interests and experiences give you clues that a genre label alone never could.

And I know you have plenty of those. Most of the women I work with are multi passionate, multifaceted humans who have no desire to squeeze themselves into one little genre box. I certainly don’t!

Your EPK, or electronic press kit, needs to reflect that, while not appearing confusing and chaotic. It needs to make it easy for someone to understand what they could book you for and why you're a great fit.

Of course, even a wonderful fit can go nowhere if you send one email and never follow up.

When someone says, “Check back when we’re planning next year’s event,” you need that date in your system. Otherwise, by the time you remember, they may have already booked someone else.

This is why I want you to have a complete booking system.

  • Research narrows the playing field to what's actually worth your time.
  • Your EPK helps them see that you're the best choice
  • Consistent follow up gives the initial contact a chance to become a booking.

Next week’s Get It Done Week inside Female Musician Accelerator is devoted to helping you put that system together.

It’s included in your FMA membership, so you can participate for as little as $49 by joining FMA here.

Let’s get you ready to approach gigs you’d actually be excited to say yes to.

Always in your corner,
<3 Bree

PS: The Get-It-Done-Week sessions are live next week on Mon/Wed/Fri at noon ET/9 AM PT. If you can't make it live, you'll get all replays and materials as soon as the sessions end.

PROFITABLE MUSICIAN: FEM FRIDAY EDITION September 4, 2026 Happy FEM Music Friday! If you've been in my world for a while, you know I often talk about Holiday releases and bookings every year in July, because that gives you the best runway to get something recorded and book some shows to promote it in December. But this year I decided not to beat the same drum in July...but I can't allow myself to completely ignore December bookings because they can be so lucrative! So consider this your nudge...

PROFITABLE MUSICIAN: FEM FRIDAY EDITION August 28, 2026 Happy FEM Music Friday! Of all four tendencies, the Rebel is the one I have to work the hardest to understand. I am a rule follower. Give me a deadline, and I will probably finish early. Put something on my calendar, and I feel deeply compelled to do it. Once I make a plan, changing it can feel more uncomfortable than following it, even when the plan is no longer serving me. Rebels do not operate that way... In this issue 🥽Rebel Without...
