👰‍♀️A milestone you helped make possible

PROFITABLE MUSICIAN:

FEM FRIDAY EDITION

October 30, 2026

Happy FEM Music Friday!

My daughter Julia is getting married next Friday.

I’m so excited to celebrate her and the wonderful man she’s chosen to spend her life with. And as I’ve been thinking about the wedding, I keep coming back to how much of my music career and business Julia has been part of, and how you helped make it possible...

Sharing Milestones With Your Fans

🎧Deadline: November 10 To Submit To Our WOSRadio Holiday Music Series

I started pursuing my music career in earnest when she was two. I brought her on tour with me, and when she was barely tall enough to see over the merch table, she helped organize it.

I’m pretty sure her cuteness brought more people than normal to the table after my shows.

When Julia was four, I started Women of Substance. At the time, I was still working part time at the opera company. Then, in 2008, the financial crisis forced the opera to close its doors.

Women of Substance gave me something of my own to focus on while I was raising little kids. By the time Julia was 11, it had also led me to start the education side of my business, which eventually became Profitable Musician.

Julia was part of that work early on. I paid her to create promotional images for the Women of Substance artists.

Later, during COVID, she was in high school and really wanted a job at Barnes & Noble. Since that wasn’t possible at the time, she became my social media manager instead.

She went on to help artists in my community with special projects, including research and video editing. And she’s always been my photographer. Chances are, if you’ve seen a photo of me, Julia took it.

So as I watch this mature 23 year old woman prepare to marry her soulmate, it feels like a milestone for my business, too.

Whether you’ve listened to Women of Substance, read my emails, joined one of my programs, or supported my work in another way, you’ve been part of the business that Julia grew up alongside. In some small way, you helped her become the woman she is today. I’m grateful for that.

Now, if you know me at all, you know there usually has to be a lesson in my emails. And while I wanted to share this with you because you’ve played a part in our story, I also want you to think about the milestones you could share with your own audience.

I know it can feel self indulgent to write an email about something happening in your personal life. You might wonder, “Why would my fans want to hear about that?”

But think about the people whose music you love. When an artist you’ve followed for years shares that her daughter is getting married, or that she’s celebrating a meaningful birthday, don’t you enjoy hearing about it? You’ve gotten to know her through her music, and you care about what’s happening in her life.

Your fans can feel that way about you, too.

The experiences you have outside your music career can influence what you write and what you share from the stage. Your fans may hear a song differently when they know a little more about the life behind it.

This is just one example of the types of things I help you share with your fans in the Fan Connection Studio.

Of course, you get to decide what you want to keep private. But you don’t have to leave your personal life out of your fan emails because you think you should only talk about your music.

Milestones deserve to be celebrated with the people you love AND the people who care most about what you do. Your fans.

Always in your corner,
<3 Bree

PROFITABLE MUSICIAN: FEM FRIDAY EDITION October 23, 2026 Happy FEM Music Friday! When my friend Tiamo was performing in San Diego, it felt like hundreds of musicians were all competing for the same four or five decent stages. The venues had all the leverage. There was always another musician who wanted the gig, and was willing to do it for little pay. And even when you landed a show, there was still the work of getting people through the door. Another round of post, emails and begging friends...

PROFITABLE MUSICIAN WEEKLY NEWSLETTER October 21, 2026 Hey there, Profitable Musician! I still remember stepping onstage for my first keynote concert. Finally, I was the event. It gave my stories and songs a place to work together. People had come to hear what I had to share. Pairing my stories with my songs gave them a reason to connect with the music. There were tears. People sang along. They signed up for my email list because the experience had meant something to them. Afterward, people...
