Happy FEM Friday!

The other day I was catching up with my friend Michael Elsner from Sync Titan.

We’ve both been doing this for a while, and we ended up talking about something that’s hard to admit out loud.

There was a time in both of our music business journeys when we seriously considered "burning it all down".

Not because we didn’t love the work. We did. We still do.

But it had started taking over our lives. The work wasn’t serving our priorities anymore—it was crowding them out. Our health. Our families. Our peace. The very things we thought we were building this life for were slipping through our fingers.

And we see musicians heading down that same path all the time...

Too many musicians are quitting, and that's not OK!

It's such a huge loss, both to the musician herself and to potential listeners and fans of her music.

That’s why I'm so passionate about helping artists with more than just the technical stuff. Because it’s never just about your release strategy or fanbase growth tactics,

It’s about building a life that supports your creativity and doesn’t drain it dry.

Inside my community for female musicians, I’ve always taken a whole-life approach.

Yes, I teach strategy. But I also talk about time management, finances, productivity, mental health, and setting up your life in a way that actually works for you.

This year, our very first workshop was called “How to Build Your Music Career Around Your Life.” It was a reflection of what so many musicians truly need.

After ten years of running my community, I recently had the chance to catch up with one of our founding members, Alicia Mathewson. We’ve stayed connected over the years, and it was amazing to see how this community has supported her through so many seasons.

There were times when she was full of energy and ideas. There were times when she was tired and overwhelmed. But through it all, she kept showing up—not because she had to, but because she didn’t have to do it alone.

She joined during her first Kickstarter. She had talent, drive, and vision, but she was carrying so much of it on her own.

What helped her move forward wasn’t just access to tools. It was having people in her corner. A place where she could grow at her own pace, with guidance and support.

In our recent podcast interview, she said something that really stayed with me:

“Just because I’ve made records before doesn’t mean I know everything. And it’s not always easy, especially as an adult, to let yourself be a beginner again. To say you still want to grow.”

That kind of humility and courage is rare—and powerful.

Today, Alicia is preparing to release her sixth album. She’s completed four successful Kickstarter campaigns. She’s writing her first book.

I know that sounds like a lot - a prescription for burnout.

But it's not. And here's why:

She’s doing it all with a sense of joy and clarity that doesn’t come from hustling harder. It comes from building smarter, with the right support around her.

There’s this message floating around that if you’re tired, you just need to push through. That burnout is part of the job. That if you can’t handle it, maybe you weren’t cut out for this.

I don’t believe that. And I never will.

Pushing to the point of burnout isn’t proof that you’re committed.

And doing it yourself doesn’t mean doing it in isolation.

That’s why I created the Female Musician Accelerator. I wanted to build the space I desperately needed when I felt overwhelmed and alone. A space where women could get coaching, ask questions, connect with community, and find tools that actually work in real life.

If you’ve been carrying this career on your shoulders by yourself, I want to invite you to try something different.

To celebrate our ten-year anniversary, I’m offering a $1 trial. It’s your chance to explore what’s inside, experience the support, and see what it feels like to finally not have to do this alone.

Because your music matters.

And I don't want you to quit (and neither do you).

Let’s build a career you can sustain and love—for the long run.

Always in your corner,
<3 Bree

  • Her experience teaching K-8 music while continuing to create and release six studio albums.
  • The inspiration and process behind her new project, "Frequencies of Love," which combines songs, mantras, and a companion book called "Sacred Dissonance."
  • How Alicia leverages tools like Kickstarter to fund her creative work and connect with her audience.
  • The importance of staying true to yourself as an artist, building community, and trusting your creative journey regardless of where it leads.

Ana Gracey - Afterlife

Born and raised in London, Ana Gracey is the daughter of jazz-rock legends Barbara Thompson and Jon Hiseman. This English Rose captivates audiences with her heartfelt songs, blending timeless, cinematic pop production with soaring vocals that inspire and empower. Ana’s passion for music ignited in her childhood, as she recorded her first vocal session at just seven years old.

Her journey as a singer and performer has taken her around the globe, but it was during the lockdown that her songwriting truly flourished.

Most recently, she unveiled “Afterlife,” and she was overwhelmed by the positive response on social media, with comments such as, “Really good. More than a singer, more than a song. Thank you,” and “Your voice is mesmerizing—so beautiful and unique. There's a bit of Kate Bush in that voice; I could listen to you all day.”

Faith Groves - Mugshots

Faith Groves, 19 years old and originally from Odessa, Texas. Faith comes from a very musical family where country music wasn’t just a genre, but a way of life. She received her first real guitar when she was nine years old, and started writing songs in secret at the age of thirteen. Growing up she always knew that being a country music singer would be a future career, although it took some amazing people really believing in her that gave Faith the courage to chase her dream. Faith now lives in Nashville absolutely living the dream. Her music is honest, real, sometimes too real, but it’s country as hell with a little rock n roll. Her hope in this industry is to share the ups and downs from her life through her music and to help others celebrate and overcome theirs. For Faith, it’s music or nothing and she'd love nothing more than for y’all to follow along and support this journey.

PROFITABLE MUSICIAN WEEKLY NEWSLETTER June 25, 2025 Hey there, Profitable Musician! One of the biggest myths I see floating around the indie music world is this idea that you need a manager to be legit. Or that once you find the right manager, everything in your career will finally click. But here's the truth: having a manager too early can actually slow you down. And not being ready when the right one comes along? That’s a missed opportunity. In my recent podcast interview with Janice Shen...
