PROFITABLE MUSICIAN:
FEM FRIDAY EDITION
|
|
|
Happy FEM Friday!
Can we talk about something that doesn’t get nearly enough airtime?
That creeping feeling that maybe you’re not cut out for this.
That voice that whispers, “Who do you think you are?” when you go to post something about your music or share a new video.
The pit in your stomach when you see someone else doing what you want to do, only better, faster, with shinier graphics and more followers.
If any of that sounds familiar, I want you to know: you are not alone...

This is imposter syndrome and comparison, and it’s one of the biggest emotional roadblocks I see women hit during Stage 2 of my framework, the Musician’s Profit Path—the Promotion stage.
This is the stage where you start putting yourself out there consistently, trying to attract the right fans to your world.
And naturally, that means you’re also seeing what everyone else is doing.
It’s so easy to get pulled into the highlight reels.
To think, “I’m too old,” “I’m too late,” or “I’ll never catch up.”
But here’s the truth: your lane is the only one that matters.
And the people who are meant to find you? They’re not looking for polished perfection or algorithms.
They’re looking for truth. For authenticity.
For someone who is willing to be brave and visible, even if she’s shaking a little while she does it.
They're looking for you. Not anyone else. YOU. And only you can be you.
So if you’ve been holding back because you feel like you don’t measure up, I want to gently call that out and invite you back to your mission.
You’ve got something only you can bring.
Let’s not deprive the world of that because someone else got a head start. Or they look like they've got it all together and are so far ahead...
remember, you're only seeing their "front of stage". You have no idea what goes on behind the scenes and how many years and blood, sweat and tears it took them to get this far.
This is a lesson we ALL have to come back to again and again because it's so easy to "take our eyes off of our own paper".
Let this be your gentle reminder to keep your eyes on the road ahead and stay in your own lane because (as we Southern Californians know well) rubbernecking slows everyone down.
Always in your corner, <3 Bree

WOMEN OF SUBSTANCE FEATURED TRACKS
Audra Watt - Daffodils
Dropping her first single, "Bullet Trains" at age 41, singer-songwriter Audra Watt wants to show the world that it's never too late to rewrite your story and that passion knows no age limit. Audra has been relentlessly making up for lost time and is finally realizing her long-forgotten dream of writing, recording, and releasing her own music. Audra represents the modern woman – authentic, imperfect, and unapologetic. She champions authenticity and gives voice to those who dare to pursue their dreams despite fear of failure. She hopes that music is a source of hope and encouragement, encouraging listeners to embrace their creativity and celebrate imperfection. Audra's music is a blend of Americana, Alternative Rock, Country, and Pop with emotional depth.
Kelsi Mayne - Breaking Bad
A former All-Canadian and varsity national bronze medalist in the 60m hurdles, she initially pursued a career in nursing. After graduating, she made the bold decision to follow her passion for music. Since then, she has performed at some of Canada’s biggest festivals and was named a Top 3 finalist in SiriusXM’s Top of the Country nationwide contest in 2019—all while remaining completely independent.
In 2020, she released her debut album just a week after the world shut down, then returned to nursing to support during the pandemic. Unsure if she’d ever return to music, she was reminded of its power in 2023, when her life took a dramatic turn. After releasing a wedding song tied to her engagement announcement, she was contacted by another woman who had been unknowingly involved with her fiancé of 10 years. The revelation led to the end of the relationship and a new chapter in her life.
Since then, she’s felt a renewed fire and believes that everything she went through has deepened her connection to music. It not only exposed the truth, but has continued to be a source of healing and strength ever since.
Medusa’s Barber - Fine Liar
Medusa’s Barber is a high-energy cover band from the rolling hills of West Virginia, known for electrifying live performances that captivate audiences. The band features three siblings—Rachael, Matthew, and Stephen Saldanha—alongside drummer Jay Justice, each bringing their unique flair to the group’s dynamic sound.
Stephen, a classically trained multi-instrumentalist, serves as the band’s musical and business director, playing lead guitar and providing backup vocals. Matthew delivers raw energy on bass with his aggressive, instinctive style, while Jay, a nationally recognized drummer, anchors the rhythm with precision and groove. Rachael leads with powerful, versatile vocals and is also an accomplished instrumentalist, known for delivering unforgettable live moments.
