PROFITABLE MUSICIAN:

FEM FRIDAY EDITION

July 18, 2025

Happy FEM Friday!

I stepped on the scale the other day and saw a number I wasn’t expecting. Just a few pounds more than before. Not a big deal, technically. But immediately, my mind went into overdrive.

People must have already noticed, right? I’ve probably looked a little puffier in my videos. My clothes haven’t been fitting quite the same. Maybe I’ve been pulling at my waistband more than usual and didn’t even realize it. I must be broadcasting this to everyone—like there’s some blinking neon sign over my head announcing, “She’s gained weight!”

I imagined walking into a room and people whispering about it. Not unkindly, maybe. Just noticing. Talking. Judging. All of it happening in my mind, of course, but feeling very real.

And yet when I looked in the mirror, I didn’t see that at all. I saw someone who looks healthy. Stronger. Happier. Because I’ve been out walking in the sunshine. I’ve been lifting weights again. I’ve been taking better care of myself than I have in months.

So why did one little number unravel all that progress in my mind?

Because sometimes we assume our imperfections are louder than they are. We think the whole world is watching, waiting to call us out, when in reality, most people aren’t paying that much attention.

And that brings me to you.

How many times have you hesitated to release a new song, or share a new idea, or try something bold with your music because you were afraid it wouldn’t land?

That it might flop and that failure will become immediately visible to everyone, like a scarlet letter.

That people might notice. That they might talk.

We imagine the worst-case scenario. That our misstep will be broadcast across the internet. That everyone will see us trying and failing and silently mark us as someone who didn’t make it.

But the truth is, people are mostly seeing the highlight reel. Just like you do with other artists.

You see the polished posts, the polished music, the wins. Not the doubts or the learning curves or the half-baked things that never saw the light of day.

And unless you decide to tell them, no one really knows when something doesn’t go the way you hoped.

Trying new things is how we grow. It’s how we build resilience, skill, and insight.

And yes, half the time, maybe more, they don’t go perfectly.

But each attempt brings you one step closer to something that does work. Something that clicks. Something you can celebrate.

You don’t need to share your missteps until you’re ready. And when you are, they can become beautiful teaching moments. But don’t let the fear of being seen in a vulnerable state stop you from ever taking a chance on something you believe in.

This may be a hit to the ego, but you are not being watched as closely as you think.

And even if you are, the right people aren’t waiting for you to fail. They’re rooting for your courage. For your creativity. For your next big move.

Always in your corner,
<3 Bree

Lexi Lew - Daddy Drank A Lot

As an up-and-coming songwriter on Music Row, Lexi penned and released a bone chilling country ballad called Roses in 2015. The artistry in the writing is only upstaged by the powerful message it was meant to convey. It is a story rooted in a personal experience of a friend struggling with depression and thoughts of suicide. The music video is beautifully executed and superbly directed by Atlanta-based videographer, Dustin Blake. Along with her single, "Back Home", an upbeat, carefree tribute to her hometown roots, "Roses", went number one on Georgia’s 94.9 The Bull Backyard Country.

Today, Lexi is a seasoned performer and a beloved staple on Nashville’s Lower Broadway live music scene with her perfect pairing of personality and versatility. By adding her own depth and texture to the mix, she effortlessly switches genres and is an expert at recreating her own versions of all the crowd pleasing, sing-along hits in classic rock, country, pop and today's top charted songs. Her stylistic approach to the arrangement and vocalizing of familiar songs paves the way for memorable, original performances every night.
