🫣the opportunity hiding inside your songs

PROFITABLE MUSICIAN WEEKLY NEWSLETTER

April 15, 2026

Hey there, Profitable Musician!

As founder of Women of Substance Radio, I'm on the receiving end of a LOT of music submissions.

And since I have the unique vantage point of reviewing hundreds of new songs each month, I have to tell you about the trends I'm seeing...

There’s more music being created than ever. And with the use of AI, especially AI Recording Artists, a lot of it sounds polished. Even impressive at first listen.

But none of the songs with vocals generated by AI are enduring for me. Now, 24 hours after listening to a batch of songs, I can't tell you what any of the songs submitted by AI Artists were about.

Because they felt stale and unengaging - like they only exist in a 2-dimensional world.

They're missing the human part, the lived experience and the emotion that makes someone stop and think, “that’s exactly how I feel.”

Those human-led songs open up a door to a 3-dimensional world for me as the listener.

It sounds funny, but it really is time to double down, and even triple down, on your humanity as an artist in 2026.

It's actually one of the most important pieces of your career right now.

It starts with your message.

And if you're about to "peace out" of this email because you think your music is not message-driven, you're wrong...

Every musician has a message whether you know it or not.

And here's why it needs to be a major focus for every human artist right now...

🎧The Uncomfortable Truth About Music Marketing That No One's Talking About

Even if you’ve never sat down and defined your message, if you think you’re “just writing songs.”

Even if you feel like you don’t have anything profound to say. You do.

It’s already there, woven into your lyrics, your melodies, your tone, your stories. The way you see the world is coming through whether you realize it or not.

Kind of like branding. You can shape it intentionally, or you can let it happen by default.

Some of you are writing from deep places. You’re processing heartbreak, healing, identity, faith, grief, growth. You want someone else out there to feel less alone because you said the thing they couldn’t put into words.

Some of you care deeply about bigger issues. You want to shine a light on important issues: Women’s experiences. Mental health. Social challenges. Stories that need to be told.

Some of you are here to uplift. To inspire. To empower. To remind people of their worth or their strength or their life's calling.

And some of you just want people to feel good. To roll the windows down, sing at the top of their lungs, and forget about the day-to-day struggles of life for a few minutes.

All of that is a message. And when a human delivers that message through song, it has a mighty impact.

But I said earlier that in 2026, to stand out you need to double down on your message. That means going beyond the song.

You have to be willing to embody it and let it show up outside the music too.

Because your future fans aren’t just connecting with songs. They’re connecting with you. They’re asking themselves, “does this artist get me?” “do I see myself mirrored in this person?”

That connection is what turns a casual listener into a real fan who sticks around for the long haul.

And I know this is where it can feel uncomfortable.

But this isn’t about being louder. It’s about being clearer, more strategic and getting in the right rooms with the right people.

When you do that, marketing starts to feel natural. Less like promotion and more like just sharing what's important to you.

Doesn't that sound like fun!

That’s exactly what I’m going to be teaching in my upcoming event next week.

How to take what’s already inside your music and bring it forward in a way that attracts the right people.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re putting really good, transformational music out there and hearing crickets…

I’d love to help you with that.

Always in your corner,

PROFITABLE MUSICIAN: FEM FRIDAY EDITION April 10, 2026 Happy FEM Music Friday! I want to tell you how last week, my busiest week of the entire year, actually went for me. It was Holy Week. And as a worship Director at a Lutheran Church, it's a lot! I had 7 services to prepare for.17 congregational songs.5 choral pieces I was leading.2 solos. And I’m still doing bookkeeping for the church… and running this business. So going into the week, I had that thought of: “Okay… something important in...

AI is not replacing real music. It can’t. It can’t write from a human place. It can only imitate. That’s the...
