The surprising truth is that your lack of time usually isn’t the problem. It’s the mental clutter that comes from too many options, too many “shoulds,” and too many systems you’ve tried but never stuck with.
Here's the deal. There is no magic system.
The best time management system isn’t the fanciest planner or the latest app. It’s the one you’ll actually use.
For me, that’s Google Calendar. I’ve used it for over a decade, not because it’s perfect, but because it helps me make fewer choices every day. I already know when I’ll be writing emails, creating social posts, rehearsing, doing admin tasks, etc.
The time-blocked colors tell me what kind of day it is before I even think about it. It’s simple, and it keeps me consistent.
But here’s the key that really changed everything for me. Having 90-day goals in place means I already know exactly what to work on when I sit down for a time block. That reduces friction even more because I don’t waste mental energy deciding what matters.
I also know what not to work on. If it’s not connected to my 3 to 5 goals for this season, it’s off limits. That kind of ruthlessness is what keeps me from being derailed by shiny objects.
Let’s be honest, there are more distractions than ever. Between social media, marketing trends, and the latest wave of AI tools promising to “save time,” it’s easy to lose whole afternoons chasing new ideas instead of finishing the ones that will actually help you reach your goals.
Don’t let that happen to the time you’ve set aside for music. Protect it fiercely. We both know how limited that dedicated time can be.
So here’s your invitation this week. Pick one system and commit to it. It doesn’t matter if it’s a paper planner, a digital tool or two (I use Google calendar with Asana for my to-do list), or sticky notes on your fridge.
Stop searching for the perfect method and start using the one that fits your life. Let it become part of your rhythm. Try it for a full 90 days. Then, if you're just not jiving with it, try a new system until you find the one that keeps you consistent.
The goal isn’t perfection. It’s peace of mind. You don’t need to squeeze every minute dry. You just need to make fewer decisions so you can put your energy where it belongs, into your music.
