Hey there, Profitable Musician!
If you’ve been reading my emails lately, you know how strongly I feel about staying connected with your fans through email.
Your email list is something you can take with you. You can reach out to people who’ve asked to hear from you without waiting for a social media algorithm to put your post in front of them. And when someone hits reply, you get to have a conversation.
Plus, you don't have to worry that suddenly that platform Gods will block you from your own community. Ask me how I know so much about this...I experienced it firsthand last August and have never gotten access reinstated to my previous Facebook.
But today I want to take you a level deeper.
There’s another kind of conversation you want to create space for an help facilitate: the one your fans have with each other.
I saw a perfect example just last week when I took my daughter to a SOMBR concert for her birthday.
There were thousands and thousands of people there, all enjoying the same music. But when my daughter found out that another girl in her choir had been at the concert, they suddenly had something more in common.
Now they’re having a DM conversation about how awesome the concert was and all the stand out moments they loved.
Their shared love of the music gave them a reason to connect beyond choir. In fact, they'd barely spoken before this. But now they have something to talk about.
Imagine that happening between your fans.
Someone shares which song got them through a difficult season, and another person responds because she’s been through something similar. Or fans who met at your last show start making plans to attend the next one together.
Your music becomes the reason people meet. Those friendships give them another reason to stay involved. And that translates into more fan engagement for you including more people attending concerts, buying merch and getting excited enough about what you do to share it and invite new people in.
That’s the next level of fan connection I want you to think about.
You’re probably already creating opportunities for people to connect with you. Where can they connect with each other?
My new favorite community platform, Heartbeat, gives you a place to facilitate those conversations.
Heartbeat brings community discussions and private messaging together with live events, courses and member payments. Your fans can find each other through a member directory and keep talking between the events you host.
For a musician, that could mean a paid fan community where you share early demos and host a monthly listening party. If you teach, you could offer a course with a community where students ask questions and encourage each other as they practice.
You can build an offer around what your people actually want and what you have time to deliver.
And yes, Patreon offers ways for fans to interact, including comments and community chats. The difference is that Heartbeat puts more tools for connecting members with each other at the center of the experience. Patreon currently doesn’t offer private messaging between members.
A Facebook group can generate conversations, too. But Facebook controls the platform, and losing access to your group could cut you off from the community you’ve worked to build.
With Heartbeat, you have a dedicated space under your own brand, with your colors and custom domain. You control the member experience without having to compete with everything else in a Facebook feed.
Click here to try Heartbeat FREE for 14 days + use code PROFITABLEMUSICIAN for 20% off your first 3 months!
SIDE NOTE: Some of you may know that I use Circle for my community. So why am I recommending Heartbeat instead. Well, 2 reasons:
- Heartbeat did not exist when I started my community on Circle back in 2021.
- Heartbeat offers a pricing option that is more musician-friendly
Keep using email to invite your fans into your music and your life. Then consider whether a community could give them a reason to keep the conversation going together.
Always in your corner,
<3 Bree
P.S. Start by thinking about the conversation, before planning a whole membership. What would your fans enjoy talking about with someone who loves your music as much as they do? My daughter and her choir friend already had plenty to say. They just needed to find each other. Start your free 14-day trial here.
